Professor Layland is both a nationally and internationally recognised cardiologist with a broad experience in all aspects of cardiology. He completed advanced cardiology training at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne and the Prince Charles Hospital Brisbane. He then went on to complete a PhD through the University of Melbourne examining the role of the coronary microcirculation in patients with Ischaemic heart disease and was nominated for the University chancellors award for outstanding thesis. During this time he was also awarded the Geoff Mews fellow prize for interventional cardiology. Following his PhD Jamie completed a post-doctoral interventional fellowship at the University of Glasgow/Golden Jubilee Hospital in Scotland where he continued his research examining coronary blood flow in patients with heart attacks. This was very productive leading to several important publications as well as providing Jamie with experience in coronary intervention at the UK’s highest volume centre for coronary intervention. Returning to Australia in 2013, he was appointed a staff specialist in cardiology at Peninsula Health and a visiting medical officer at St Vincent’s Health. He is currently Director of Cardiovascular Research at Peninsula Health and an Adjunct Professor of medicine through Monash University. He has private appointments at Peninsula Private Hospital and Beleura Private Hospital. Jamie has a clinical interest in all aspects of cardiology including the management of patients with chest pain (including microvascular disease and coronary vasospasm), the assessment of cardiovascular risk and the management of heart failure. He performs coronary angiography, coronary stenting, coronary physiology and intravascular imaging. He is actively involved in research with participation in numerous national and international clinical trials. Jamie has over 100 publications and continues to be at the forefront of cardiology research. Dr Jackson graduated from Monash University in 2007 with first class honours and a clinical school prize. Throughout internship and residency at The Alfred Hospital, Damon received awards for teaching and mentorship. After completing his physician’s exam at The Alfred hospital, Damon completed his cardiology training through Eastern Health, Peninsula Health and Monash Health. Awarded his FRACP in 2015, Damon went on to complete a dedicated fellowship in cardiac imaging at Monash Health in 2016. Damon has been on the Peninsula since February 2017, employed as a staff specialist at Peninsula Health and caring for patients at Peninsula Private Hospital, Beleura Private Hospital, The Bays Hospital, and Frankston Private Hospital. His sub speciality areas of interest include cardiac echo, stress echo, transoesophageal echo and cardiac CT. Besides clinical cardiology, Damon is a passionate teacher and is heavily involved with training students through Monash University and physician’s training at Peninsula Health. He translates these skills and interest to educating his patients in a similar way. Born in the Netherlands, Olivier moved to Australia in 2001 with his family. He trained in cardiology at the Alfred Hospital. In 2005 he completed a PhD at the Baker Medical Research Institute. Olivier spent two years at Leiden University Medical Centre as an Overseas Fellow. He specialised in Non- invasive Imaging and Device Therapy. Olivier has a passion for the management of Heart Failure. This is an often complex and challenging syndrome. It requires an intensive and multi-disciplinary approach. He has a special interest in device therapy. This includes pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapies (biventricular pacemakers). His interest extends to imaging. Echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram, transoesophageal echocardiogram, multi-slice cardiac CT scan, diagnostic coronary angiography. Olivier has an appointment at the Alfred Hospital. Dr Cole is a highly trained interventional cardiologist, having completed extensive specialist training in the percutaneous treatment options for complex coronary artery disease, and intravascular imaging with Professor Scott Harding at Wellington Regional Hospital, New Zealand. Preceding this he spent 2 years at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, another high-volume centre, achieving further advance training and accreditation in transcatheter aortic valve implantation, and percutaneous coronary intervention. In addition, Dr Cole has achieved his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) through Monash University, Clayton, for unique research assessing inflammation and injury post coronary artery stenting and acute myocardial infarction, finding a potential benefit in patients pre-treated with Colchicine in the randomised-controlled COPE-PCI trials. Dr Cole is accredited to report both CT coronary angiogram and CT TAVI scans. Dr Logan Bittinger graduated with Honours from The University of Melbourne in 2000, becoming a cardiologist in 2007. He then undertook three further years of fellowship, dedicated solely to cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac rhythm management, including fellowships at MonashHeart, The Austin Hospital, and then Royal Jubilee Hospital in British Columbia, Canada. Dr Bittinger is accomplished in complex interventional management of arrhythmias, particularly for atrial fibrillation. Through his public appointment at MonashHeart he regularly recruits and performs procedures for trials and international clinical research studies. Dr Bittinger is a prolific implanter of cardiac devices, and offers device follow up through his clinics, with the ability to manage pacemakers and defibrillators from all the major device companies. He implants all devices publically and privately, including pacemakers, defibrillators and resynchronization devices. His philosophy is that every patient needs to have a comprehensive understanding of and actively participate in decisions regarding their heart health. Dr Srinidhi Rao is an internationally trained paediatric and fetal cardiologist. Sri’s main areas of expertise are general paediatric cardiology, fetal cardiology, advanced echocardiography imaging and paediatric pulmonary hypertension. Sri has particular interest in complex congenital heart disease and exercise testing. Furthermore, Sri has interest in pre-participation cardiac screening and consults in all aspects of paediatric cardiology. Sri trained extensively in paediatric cardiology along with general paediatrics, neonatology and paediatric weight management in the UK and Australia. He attended medical school in Bengaluru, India and obtained his MBBS degree. He started his paediatric cardiology training with a fellowship at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney. He then moved to the UK for a fellowship in paediatric pulmonary hypertension at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London followed by cardiology fellowships at Southampton General Hospital and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Dr Rao then worked as a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK prior to moving back to Australia. Associate Professor Nicholas (Nick) Jones is a cardiac imaging specialist and general cardiologist. He is also currently employed as the Director of General Medicine as well as a cardiac imaging cardiologist at Austin Health. Nick completed medical school, with Distinction, at Flinders University in Adelaide before returning to Melbourne. He undertook his specialist training at Austin Health, Bendigo Health, and Peninsula Health. After attaining his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Nick undertook further sub-specialty training at St Vincent’s Hospital with a focus on cardiac imaging. Nick has a keen interest in managing cardiac disease in the elderly (cardio-geriatrics) and particularly those with complex medical needs. He also has an interest in general cardiology, particularly heart failure, valvular and structural heart disease and the management of atherosclerotic disease. Kyi then moved to Melbourne and undertook further sub-speciality training in advanced echocardiography at the Alfred Hospital where he further gained experience in all aspects of echocardiography including trans-thoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and trans-oesophageal echocardiography as well as echocardiographic guidance of transcatheter structural interventions. During his training years, Kyi was involved in several research projects in general cardiology and cardiac imaging and has published in international peer-reviewed journals. Kyi’s clinical areas of interest are in general cardiology and in multimodality cardiac diagnostic imaging such as echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI. Kyi is compassionate and gentle; he enjoys working and communicating with his patients and referring doctors with emphasis on providing high quality care in a dedicated and professional manner. Dr Toner graduated from Melbourne University Medical School in 2015 with distinction. After completing his physician’s exam at the Austin hospital, Liam completed his advanced cardiology training at Austin Health, Alfred Health and Peninsula Health. Awarded his FRACP in 2022, Liam went on to complete a dedicated fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging at Monash Health in 2023 at the new Victorian Heart Hospital as well as a combined inherited cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging fellowship at the prestigious St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 2024. Liam is active in cardiovascular research and has published widely in Australian and international journals.
